5599 - Heureusement Que Le Sang Seche Vite LP

5599Nashazphone. 5599 is a new duo featuring France's electronic improvisation giant Jean-Marc Foussat on EMS Synthi AKS and current golden boy Augustin Brousseloux on electric guitar and alto saxophone. Heureusement que le sang seche vite features 3 tracks where guitar and saxophone interplay with analog synthesizer to create psychedelic, dense and textured soundscapes of aggressive noise onslaughts and moments of bliss. Born in Oran (Algeria) in 1955, Jean-Marc Foussat played in several experimental rock groups before he started a career as a sound engineer in diverse studios which progressed towards recording live improvised music around 1979. He has collaborated with labels such as Incus, Hat Hut, Po-Torch, Rift, Rec Rec, and Celluloid where he recorded a number of songs for Bill Laswell's seminal Massacre on the album Killing Time in 1981. In 1983, he self-released the groundbreaking Abattage which deserves its position on a pedestal amidst the greatest French improvisation records. Since the 1990s he returned to playing in improvisation groups such as Marteau Rouge, alongside Makoto Sato and Jean-Francois Pauvros, and Aliquid with Sylvain Guerineau. Born in 1999, saxophonist and guitarist Augustin Brousseloux is a young prodigy currently storming the French improvisation underground. At the age of 16, he has already collaborated -- live and on albums -- with heavyweights such as Noel Akchote, Costes and Jean-Marc Foussat.

B/B/S - Palace 2LP

MB B Siasmah. One of the most amazing things about the group B/B/S/ is that even though it does sound like the logical sum of its parts, listening to their output is like devoting yourself to an emotional haze of interaction. All based on improvisations recorded within two sessions at Golden Retriever Studios in Berlin, the ten new tracks, spanning almost 80 minutes total, are so fluid and natural that they abandon separating the musicians' individual contribution for a soundscape that is overwhelming in the best possible way. However, the place B/B/S/ puts you in is not a gleaming one: It could be imagined as an empty room with just a chair to sit on to be surrounded and pervaded by flickering guitars, effects and drums – a scenery that is as murky as it is gripping and best digested without further distraction.

Making you feel comfortable might not be their main intention but Aidan Baker, Andrea Belfi and Erik Skodvin know all the tricks to turn this into an exciting atmospheric experience with plenty of vigour and hope shining through the duskiness. Their second album for Miasmah masters in tension that is building up like a blueprint, maybe starting in one room but revealing many doors, corridors and passages to explore. There are no dead ends in their Palace: It’s a dark territory and sparse in light but each turn is a success and each glance a revelation. (Out: 10. June)

Bishop, Sir Richard - Tangier Sessions LP

SirRichardBishop_TangierSessions_MINIDrag City. Sir Richard Bishop is back with a fresh album and a fresh guitar! On Tangier Sessions, out February 17th, Sir Richard’s mythic guitar playing reaches a new degree of ingenuity and esteem. While traveling in Geneva, Bishop stumbled upon a modest, yet enchanting guitar, hidden on a shelf. He left the shop empty handed, but for days the guitar haunted him! He returned to purchase the instrument, mesmerized by the incredible sounds it produced when played. Tangier Sessions' first single, "Frontier," has just premiered with the Quietus, who say it's "a prime example, not only of his guitar's resonant qualities, but of Bishop's deft, dexterous playing." Leave it to the Brits to provide understated praise! Utilizing this new and mysterious guitar, “Frontier” is an enduringly majestic composition, one of several songs on Tangier Sessions to feature Sir Richard playing without a plectrum for the first time.  With the fingers of his right hand matching up digit for digit with the fingers of his left, an arresting, hypnotizing space comes to life, one that will be familiar yet particularly far out to all who hear it -- experienced listeners and virgins of the "Frontier," alike! For those saddling up for the first time, such expressiveness from Rick Bishop is to be expected and he's no stranger to improvisation. Yet the complexity brought forth on “Frontier," and found on the entirety of Tangier Sessions, is only compounded by the knowledge that these songs were self-recorded in a Moroccan roof-top apartment, spontaneously written, jammed, and documented in the space of one week.

Byggesett Orchestra - The Wild Birch LP
byggesettLooking to new horizons, producer Peter Körfer and sound artist Georg Sehrbrock deactivated their long-standing music project Belgium and set off to break new ground.
After having grown together in an organic process, Sehrbrock & Koerfer, architects of electronic soundscapes, have reinvented themselves as Byggesett Orchestra (Norwegian for construction-set-orchestra), for which this duo serves as basis and core.
Now, being at the same time more receptive than ever to musical influences while standing aloof of all constraints related to music and content, and thus, effectively caught between two stools, Byggesett Orchestra have made themselves quite at home in this purview.
An interplay of ambient jazz, which remains a vital cornerstone of their approach, and new influences (Terry Riley, Emeralds, Editions Mego, Kranks, Stars Of The Lid, Fripp/Eno, Canterbury) fuel the creation of a sound which is mature, protean and at peace with itself. Hypnotic, dark and forcefully bone-dry drones, elegant loops, minimal sound layers and free-form riffs clash with radically structured passages, heavy soundscapes and driving percussions, creating jagged panoramas of sound while orchestrating all disparate parts together to form a pyrothechnic melange. Limited edition of 300 copies.

Cardoso, Goncalo & Ruben Pater - A Study Into 21st Century Drone Acoustics LP

goncalo, cardosoDiscrepant. Much attention is focused on drones as 'Eyes in the Sky'. However for people on the ground, the sound of the drones is much more pervasive. Military drones fly at high altitudes and are more often heard than seen. The word drone itself is rooted in sound, referring to the noise of the male honeybee. The sound of drones in areas of conflict create frightening soundscapes that go on for many hours on end. The sound gives them nicknames like zanana (buzz) in Palestine. In this project, designer Ruben Pater (drone survival guide) and composer Goncalo F. Cardoso (Discrepant) join hands to focus on the auditive aspects of drones. What engines do drones have, and what do they sound like? Side a features recordings of 17 drone types, ranging from small consumer drones to large military drones, as contemporary bird songs. The b side presents a soundscape by Goncalo F. Cardoso, inspired by the abusive and destructive power or drone technology. The composition focus on the conceptual (sound) life and death of an aerial drone machine in the 21st century." (label info) Mastered by Rashad Becker, printed on a metallic finish sleeve, comes with 12 pp. booklet.

Charalambides - Glowing Raw LP

DCharalambides Glowingrawing Room. "Illusory, dreadful magic lies within their music. Terror is present but fleeting. Relief exists with all its attendant pleasure; yet, relief can only emerge in the wake of tension. Glowing Raw is a record full of such intricacies. Charalambides’ music carries the curious quality of being tethered only by itself. Tom and Christina Carter don’t pull music(s) in as much as they reach out to touch them, and in so doing, they summon a place that exists only when they play. The music shies neither from traditionalism nor formlessness. It’s easy to ascribe a landscape-like quality to this music, and easier still to presume that the landscape of the music is the scene of their surroundings. Yet, what emerges is a place existing only in the hearts of those conjuring it. Glowing Raw… Any glow worthy of the name is, if you think about it, always raw. No one glows on command…” – Matt Krefting

Recorded in the late-90s, with a very limited CDR release a decade later, Glowing Raw represents an important but often-unheard artwork in the all-amazing recording history of Charalambides. Created around the same time as the crucial Houston album, Glowing Raw is Charalambides in essential and pure form. It’s powerful and potent.

Drawing Room is proud to present the first time vinyl release of Glowing Raw. Each LP is pressed on 180-gram vinyl housed in a full color matte jacket (with download) and includes a foldout poster

Clay Rendering - Snowthorn LP

Hospital Productions. Clay RenderingPerhaps the most compelling of all the many projects started by one-time members of Wolf Eyes, Clay Rendering came to life in 2013 and have since released a trio of singles for Hospital Productions that have gained them the admiration of followers spanning both electronic and metal communities.

Their material occupies unique terrain, recalling The Cure’s widescreen Disintegration-era instrumentals, cut through with a Black Metal palette and an appreciation of electronic music that imbues their production (notably assisted by Dominick Fernow) with an end-of-world quality that’s impossible to pin down. Evoking Nine Inch Nails one moment, you find yourself in a smoke- filled, strobe-lit Road House the next; bleary-eyed, head spinning, coming down.

Conrad, Tony & Faust - Outside The Dream Syndicate LP

Conrad, Tony & FaustSuperior Viaduct. Violinist, composer and filmmaker Tony Conrad started his career in New York in the early 1960s. As a member of the Theater of Eternal Music (a.k.a. the Dream Syndicate) alongside John Cale, La Monte Young, Marian Zazeela and Angus MacLise, he participated in now-legendary and often legendarily loud drone performances with many pieces having no beginning and no end. During a fateful trip to Germany in 1972, Conrad met with avant-rock visionaries Faust and made the very first record to bear his name.

Outside The Dream Syndicate, originally released in Europe only in 1973, is a stunning debut. Two side-long tracks—“The Side Of Man And Womankind” and “The Side Of The Machine”—show just how far Conrad had moved beyond his minimalist peers. Werner Diermaier’s repetitive drum beat and Jean-Hervé Peron’s stripped-down bassline conjure a tense, ascetic groove, while Conrad’s seamless violin, initially so controlled, reveals a surprising adaptability. The music shifts almost on a subliminal level, pushing and pulling to the drone’s internal pulse.

It is hard to imagine Conrad’s trajectory from downtown Manhattan to a farmhouse in the German countryside that ultimately resulted in Outside The Dream Syndicate, yet no other record captures—so completely and instantly—the intersection of avant-garde and rock forms. Outside The Dream Syndicate remains ahead of and bracingly outside of its time.

This first-time vinyl reissue and long out-of-print CD release have been carefully mastered from the original master tapes and include liner notes by musician Jim O’Rourke and author Branden W. Joseph.

Dorji, Tashi & Shane Parish - Expecting LP

MIE.Dorji Parrish Much has been made of the nesting compulsion that overtakes expecting parents. It's fair to suggest that this album owes its name to the fact that Asheville NC residents Tashi Dorji and Shane Parish were both looking forward to parenthood when they made it, and not much of a stretch to say that it expresses something that they both had to say before the babies arrived. That message is one of two guys bonding over shared understandings. They've been known each other for over a decade, during which time they've played both as a duo and as parts of larger ensembles. Both play guitar, and while their discographies map quite disparate interests, they share a devotion to the guitar as a vehicle for improvisation. The eight improvisations that make up Expecting grow out of a dynamic of sharing -- one fellow shows up with a tuning and maybe a string preparation, the other works out a response, and out of that comes not only a piece of music but a renewal and confirmation of a relationship in which two humans share what they love. Expecting parents tend to be anxious ones. Titles like 'Dust Of Dust,' 'Storm Sinks Boat,' and 'Break Up' give the impression that Dorji and Parish weren't free from trepidation when they made Expecting, and the record's discordant moments back it up. Nowadays writers are quick to lay the term experimental music on anything dissonant. But while one could say that this music actually earns that much-abused term because it comes out of a process of proposal and problem solving, an emotionally truer term would be experiential music. It came out of Parish and Dorji's real time communion, and it is informed by their shared history. For them, making the music was an experience; playing the record imparts a different experience, one of receiving rather than making, but it still expresses a dynamic of exchange." --Bill Meyer, Berwyn, Illinois, USA, January 31, 2016

Dwarfs Of East Agouza - BES 2LP

Dwarfs Of East Agouza Bes Nawa. The Dwarfs of East Agouza is a trio from Cairo, Egypt, featuring Maurice Louca (Alif, Bikya), Sam Shalabi (Land of Kush, Shalabi Effect) and Alan Bishop (Sun City Girls, The Invisible Hands, Alvarius B). Named after the Ancient Egyptian dwarf deity who was worshiped as the defender of all things good and enemy of all that is bad, Bes captures the trio on a hypnotic yet unpredictable journey. From the  four-minute ethiopian tinged “Resinance” to the 30-minute free-form epic “Museum of Stranglers”, the album skirts the outer limits of a psychedelic soundtrack to a North African road trip.
